Rationale

PARENTS, TEACHERS and THERAPISTS have expressed a need for EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES to address the individualised NEEDS of young people. By meeting these needs they hope to provide the best chance for ACADEMIC SUCCESS and develop a “love for learning.” This site will focus on three areas namely, EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, SKILL DEVELOPMENT (preventative work) and the ability to SUPPORT LEARNING (intervention) when difficulties arise.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION requires an understanding of CHILD DEVELOPMENT, visual and auditory PERCEPTUAL SKILLS, PHONOLOGICAL PROCESSING, THINKING SKILLS, MEMORY, gross and fine MOTOR SKILLS, HANDWRITING and much more. The PRIMARY SCHOOL years go on to include READING/LITERACY, SPELLING, MATHS, CREATIVE WRITING, STUDY SKILLS and EXAM WRITING.

Some of the BARRIERS to LEARNING that a young person may experience are THINKING SKILL / COGNITIVE ERRORS, LEARNING DIFFICULTIES, DISABILITIES, DYSLEXIA, EMOTIONAL DIFFICULTIES, ABSENTEEISM, PHYSICAL HEALTH and/or CONTEXTUAL FACTORS to mention but a few. The range of activities on this site (progressively developed) will provide a fabulous AFFORDABLE way for children to EASILY ACCESS INDIVIDUALISED PROGRAMMES from KINDERGARTEN through to the primary years as they PLAY and LEARN. The thoroughly researched THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK used to underpin this site is that of the PASS MODEL of Prof. J.P. DAS and J.A. NAGLIERI.

Educational Support Pty. Ltd. focuses on supporting Teachers, Therapists, Tutors and Parents in making reading, spelling, writing, letter formation and maths accessible to all young people. Activities on this website are based on well researched THEORIES OF LEARNING, LEARNING DIFFICULTIES and the NATIONAL CURRICULUM.
TEACHING and LEARNING THEORIES: Anyone working with children and not having training in this field would benefit from understanding some of the theories about LEARNING and TEACHING.
The FOUNDATION SKILLS of VISUAL & AUDITORY PERCEPTION, ATTENSION, PLANNING, SUCCESSIVE, PHONOLOGICAL and SIMULTANEOUS PROCESSING are vital components necessary to ensure efficient COGNITIVE PROCESSING and SOCIAL / EMOTIONAL FUNCTIONING.
The ability to REPRODUCE LETTERS / WORDS / SENTENCES on a page is a complex process involving the small muscles of the hand, visual perceptual spatial understanding, motor-sequencing, successive processing and planning to name but a few skills.
A collection of activities linked to specific COGNITIVE PROCESSES to facilitate the processing, retention and transfer of knowledge for SIGHT WORDS, PHONIC WORDS, RHYME CHUNKS and HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS.
Reading is for MEANING. COMPREHENSION integrates the reading, thinking and reasoning enabling the young person to extract facts, identifies the main idea, understand the whole picture, make connections, inferences and draw conclusions.
ASSESSMENT is a process of gathering information to IDENTIFY TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES or for the design of an intervention programme.
